Finn’s Story

Our son, Finley “Finn,” was unexpectedly born extremely premature at 23 weeks and 4 days gestation on May 4, 2026, due to a placental abruption. Weighing only 13.9 ounces at birth, Finn is considered a micropremie.

Immediately after delivery, Finn was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where he was stabilized and will remain for an undetermined length of time. He currently requires extensive medical support, including a breathing tube for respiratory assistance, a feeding tube for nutrition, and a PICC line for intravenous medications, fluids, and blood products. In addition, he undergoes frequent X-rays, laboratory testing, echocardiograms, ultrasounds, and receives around-the-clock specialized nursing care.

Finn has a long and uncertain journey ahead. In the coming months and years, he may require ongoing medical support and therapies, including supplemental oxygen, feeding therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, vision support, and close follow-up care with multiple specialists. At this time, the full extent of his long-term medical needs remains unknown.

Throughout this experience, the NICU team—including the neonatologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists, social workers, front desk staff, lactation consultants, housekeeping staff, and many others—has been truly exceptional. We are incredibly grateful for the compassionate, dedicated care they have provided to Finn and our family during this difficult time.
