Amos’ Story

Meet Amos! One day while playing, Amos began crying and saying “it hurts, it hurts!” while pointing to his stomach. His mom rushed him to the ER where she was told they found a huge tumor in his abdomen and it was suspected to be cancerous. Lysa said “I cried and felt like everything was a bad dream. I wanted to wake up, it felt like it wasn’t real.” Amos was transferred to a different hospital where an MRI and biopsy were performed to confirm the cancer. Amos was diagnosed with pretext 2 Hepatoblastoma (a liver cancer).

Amos was immediately given chemotherapy. After two rounds, the tumor had not shrunk much was still inoperable due to its positioning near blood vessels. His doctors have now switched his chemo protocol to a very intensive one, adding three more drugs to what he was receiving. The plan is to do two cycles of the new protocol and then imaging to see if surgery can be performed. After the first round of the new protocol, he spiked a fever and was rushed to the ER where he ended up spending seven days in the hospital as his ANC was zero. Since that round of chemo he has been vomiting every day (for weeks now) and has not been able to eat anything so relies solely on his NG tube for nutrition. Currently, they are waiting for his body to recover so he can receive the next round of chemo and continue to try to shrink the tumor so it will be safe to perform surgery.

While Amos is fighting this battle, his mom is also walking her own cancer journey, receiving chemotherapy as well. While this could be absolutely debilitating for them they are choosing to cling to their faith and remember that Amos was created for a purpose. What an inspiration for us all!
